Te Tītoki Mataora | MedTech Research Translator and the Auckland Bioengineering Institute are proud to offer paid summer studentship opportunities for ambitious Māori and Pacific students interested in health and medical technologies.
The studentships provide a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on research experience and explore what it is like to work in health and medical technology research. Students will be placed with established research groups at one of Te Tītoki Mataora and ABI’s partner institutions, working across a wide range of areas including brain research, medical device and digital health design and development, experimental physiology, computational modelling, software and algorithm development, clinical translation of new medical technologies, and more.
Two studentship pathways are available:
ABI & Te Tītoki Mataora Māori Pathway Summer Studentships
For students of Māori descent who are interested in undertaking a Kaupapa Māori studentship with one of our partner institutions.
ABI & Te Tītoki Mataora Pacific Summer Studentships
For students of Pacific descent who are interested in undertaking a studentship with one of our partner institutions.
Each studentship is valued at NZD$6,750 tax-free and will run for 10 weeks or 375 hours. Provisional dates are between 30 November 2026 and 12 February 2027, excluding the Christmas period. Final dates will be agreed between the student and supervisor.
To be eligible, applicants must be current students at a New Zealand tertiary institution, be available to work on their project full time during the provisional studentship period, and have an interest in health and medical technologies, particularly in making an impact on healthcare for communities.
